First, every entrance ticket already covers the permanent collection and the temporary exhibitions that are running, so there is no separate charge at the door of a special show. Second, every visitor needs a ticket with a start time, and that includes people holding a Museum Card or another discount card: the card covers the price, not the booking step. The museum also states plainly that it can take 20 to 30 minutes before the ticket reaches your inbox, so the habit of booking on your phone at the entrance can leave you waiting outside.

• Put your own timing in: take the hour you want to walk in and subtract 30 minutes, and that is the latest moment to press book. Booking before you leave home is steadier than booking at the door, particularly at weekends.
