This 45-minute VR expedition rebuilds Machu Picchu with drones, LiDAR and photogrammetry. Robot guide TERI leads you across terraces and into the Temple of the Sun without altitude or crowds.
What you need to know
Machu Picchu is often reduced to one classic mountaintop photograph. This experience restores the spatial relationships that image cannot show: how terraces follow the slope and how the Temple of the Sun connects to the city around it.
During the pandemic, the developers received exceptional site access and recorded it with drones, LiDAR and photogrammetry. With guidance from Inca historians, more than 50 engineers built a freely explorable digital city, linked by robot guide TERI.
It cannot replace standing in the Andes, but in 45 minutes it reveals building scale and terrain without altitude, crowds or long-distance travel. The minimum age is ten, and anyone prone to VR sickness should still take care.
- Address: Jaarbeursplein 6, 3521 AL Utrecht, Netherlands.
- Live price from EUR 19.00; current sessions run to 27 September 2026 and the experience lasts about 45 minutes.
- Ages 10+ and the venue is marked accessible for reduced mobility; motion-sensitive visitors should assess the VR format.
First map the terraces, Temple of the Sun and mountain slope in relation to one another, then follow TERI into detail; the 45 minutes becomes more than a sequence of views.
