Fabrique des Lumieres at 18 euro: this Dutch Masters ticket sells only three morning slots

You have a morning to fill in Amsterdam with family or friends, and the old gasworks hall in the Westergaspark holds the largest digital art space in the Netherlands: paintings thrown across walls up to seventeen metres high, with light and sound, so that walking in means standing inside the picture. There is almost no language barrier here, no labels to read and no guide to follow, which makes it far easier than a traditional museum for a parent whose Dutch and English are still coming along, or for a child who cannot sit still. This is not a hall you wander through all day, though: it rotates programmes by time block. The venue's own timetable states that until 17 September 2026 each day runs 09:30 to 11:30 Dutch Masters, 12:00 to 14:30 Prehistoric Planet and 15:00 to 18:00 Gustav Klimt, and that from 18 September it becomes 09:30 to 10:30 Dutch Masters and 11:00 to 17:30 Da Vinci, Raphael and Michelangelo. This Dutch Masters ticket in practice offers only three entry times, 09:30, 10:00 and 10:30, with nothing in the afternoon. Matching that to your day before you buy is far easier than changing it afterwards.

The price column hides a sum of its own. The official list gives adults 18 euro, students 14, ages 5 to 17 also 14, under fives free, and a family ticket for two adults plus two youngsters at 52. Two adults and two youngsters bought separately come to 18 twice plus 14 twice, which is 64, so the family ticket saves 12. But one adult with two youngsters bought separately is 18 plus 14 twice, which is 46, six euro below the family ticket. Count the adults and the children first, then choose the ticket type, rather than assuming the family option always wins.

• Fix the slot before the date: to see the Dutch Masters programme, the entry times offered are 09:30, 10:00 and 10:30 only, and arriving in the afternoon means seeing something else
• The venue states that final entry is one hour before closing; nobody is cleared out afterwards, so how long you stay is your own choice and a child can take it slowly

• Holders of the I amsterdam City Card, a Stadspas or a Go City pass enter free, but the venue states this is handled at the ticket desk only, so buying online first simply wastes the money

The building sits inside the Westergaspark, reachable by tram from Amsterdam Sloterdijk or Centraal, with a few minutes on foot through the park after you get off, which is worth adding to your leaving time with children. There is almost no seating inside and the projections brighten and darken continuously, so anyone sensitive to strong light can pause in the entrance area before stepping into the main hall.
