Quiz Room Ghent can be played in English: two adults and one child pay EUR 63.75 together, EUR 2.25 less than three separate tickets

When a group of friends living in the Netherlands looks for something to do on a wet day, the problem is usually not whether it is fun but which language it is played in. Quiz Room in Ghent puts a television quiz show inside a single room: six buzzers, stage lighting, a big screen, and a virtual host called Amber who runs the game in Dutch, English, French or Spanish. It is rated 4.6 from 70 reviews on Fever and sits at Burgstraat 38A, inside the old centre of Ghent.

Quiz Room reached Ghent after Brussels, Dubai and Melbourne, and one room holds up to 18 players at once, with two rooms on site. The rules shape the evening: fewer than six people play as individuals, six or more split into teams, and a group of eight can be cut into four pairs. Four question sets are available and you can switch until the last moment: the original mixed quiz, a music round where you name the artist and the title, The Mole, in which the group has to unmask a traitor and which needs at least four players, and a children's quiz for ages 8 to 12. You can also add ten questions of your own beforehand, recording your voice or adding photographs. One quiz runs 60 minutes and two run 90.

The pricing is the part you have to work out yourself, because the Fever page lists four ticket types side by side without saying which one wins. They are: an adult ticket at EUR 25 each for groups of 3 to 6, an adult ticket at EUR 22 each from 7 players up, a child and student ticket at EUR 16 for children aged 8 to 12 or anyone with a valid student card, and a family bundle at EUR 21.25 each for 3 to 6 people with a maximum of two adults. So the total is adults x (EUR 22 if the group reaches seven, otherwise EUR 25) + children and students x EUR 16. Run the family combinations through it and the bundle only wins with two adults and one child: bought separately that is EUR 66 against EUR 63.75, saving EUR 2.25; two adults and two children cost EUR 82 separately against EUR 85 as a bundle, EUR 3 worse; and two adults with four children cost EUR 114 separately against EUR 127.50, EUR 13.50 worse. For adults the threshold is headcount: six adults pay EUR 150, and the seventh person drops the whole group to EUR 22 each, so seven pay EUR 154 and eight pay EUR 176.
