BIGc HyperBowling in Brussels, 8 glowing lanes: four players pay EUR 8.50 less in total than three

A weekend in Brussels, and of course it rains. The Grand Place photos are done and there are three empty hours left in the afternoon. For a group of friends or a family, the easiest answer is one building where you can stay indoors all afternoon, and there is one on the ground floor of the Westland shopping centre in Anderlecht, on the west side of the city.

BIGc, the Brussels Indoor Games Center, calls itself the largest indoor multi-activity centre in Brussels: 4,500 square metres with a 32-cell Prison Island, a two-level laser game, karaoke boxes and more than 30 arcade machines. Entry is free and you pay per activity. Its HyperBowling has 8 lanes that play as classic bowling or switch to HyperBowling, where the glowing bumpers along each lane become targets and hitting a lit section scores extra, so the score climbs much faster than usual. Each session lasts one hour and is rated 4.3 from 42 reviews.

Families should check age and mobility first: the ticket page says players must be 5 or older and the lanes are not accessible to people with reduced mobility. There are two bars and a kitchen, but outside food is not allowed, except a birthday cake with a birthday package. If one game is not enough, the other activities are in the same building, so there is no need to move on.

• Price it by group size: total = number of players times the per-person rate for that group band. For the Saturday session checked, 2 to 3 players pay EUR 15.50 each, 4 to 6 pay EUR 9.50 each and 7 or more pay EUR 6.50 each. Three players pay EUR 46.50; bring a fourth and the total drops to EUR 38.00, EUR 8.50 less. Run the same sum yourself for six against seven.
• Monday and Tuesday open only in the afternoon: the official hours are 13:00 to 21:00 Monday and Tuesday, 11:00 to 21:00 Wednesday and Thursday, 11:00 to midnight Friday, 10:00 to midnight Saturday and 10:00 to 21:00 Sunday. Prices can change by date and time, so pick your slot on the ticket page and check the per-person rate again before paying.
• Driving there, use the GARDEN car park: the venue says the Interparking at Westland has 2,240 spaces and recommends the GARDEN section, directly opposite the entrance and O'Tacos.
