The manufacturer sheet puts the Crometta 100 Vario EcoSmart at 6,7 l/min on Rain and 6,3 on IntenseRain at 3 bar; the 8 in the listing title is an EU taxonomy ceiling, not a measurement. EUR 25.99. Includes how to measure your own head.
What you need to know
The shower head in a Dutch rental is usually whatever the previous tenant or the landlord left behind, and almost nobody has measured what it puts out per minute. The average shower here runs 7,4 minutes, and close to a quarter of household gas goes to hot water for the bathroom and kitchen (Milieu Centraal, checked 2026-08-27). Put those two numbers side by side and the shower head stops being hardware and becomes a line on the bill.
hansgrohe builds its flow limiter and air-mixing chamber into a module it calls EcoSmart, and fits it to the entry-level Crometta range. The manufacturer specification sheet states that the Crometta 100 Vario EcoSmart (article 26332400) delivers 6,7 litres per minute on the Rain spray at 3 bar and 6,3 litres on IntenseRain, with a minimum flow pressure of 1 bar. The same maker's Vernis Blend Vario without EcoSmart (article 26270000) is listed at 15,2 litres per minute. Only with both numbers in view can you see which part of the flow the module actually holds back.
The day you move into a flatshare, unscrew the old head, put it in a box, fit this one, and swap it back when you leave: the connection is a standard G½ thread, so no tools and no conversation with the landlord. Pressure is the thing to check. The maker lists a 1 bar minimum and says the shower functions from 5 litres per minute, so an older instantaneous gas heater with weak flow may fail to ignite. And if the head you have is already below 7,2 litres per minute, which is where Milieu Centraal draws the line for a water-saving head, there is very little left to gain.
- Measure your own: hold a one-litre jug under the head, time how many seconds it takes to fill, and divide 60 by that number to get your litres per minute
- The "8 l/min" in the listing title is not a measured flow. It is the ceiling of the EU taxonomy band "max. 8 l/min"; the manufacturer sheet gives 6,7
- The 4,7 out of 5 from 413 reviews on the listing is pooled across every hansgrohe hand shower: checked the same day, Croma Select S, Croma 100 and Vernis Blend are three separate ranges and all three report the identical 4,7 / 413
Treat the Milieu Centraal figure of about 25 euro per person per year as a template rather than an answer, because it assumes a long-term gas price of 1,37 per cubic metre. Take the gas price on your own bill, divide it by 1,37, multiply by 25, then multiply by the number of people in the house. That is what your household actually saves in a year, and the purchase price divided by that number tells you how many years the head takes to pay for itself.
