Fly a kite at a century-old fort

Fort bij Spijkerboor was completed in 1913 and became one of the largest and most modern forts in the Defence Line of Amsterdam, with original Krupp guns still present. On 16 August, OERRR does not keep children in front of interpretation panels. It turns the site into an outdoor task card: build a kite, play pollinator bingo, learn about bees and watch a kite demonstration. Each stop makes the open landscape readable as a place shaped by defence, wind and nature. The activity converts a quiet heritage visit into physical participation, although admission to the fort itself is separate. The programme runs 11:00–16:00 without advance registration and payment is PIN only. Weather and wind matter, so water, sun protection and clothes that can get dirty beat an overfilled plan.
