Three curators ask what belief means

“Belief” is easily reduced to a religious label, but Museum Gouda asks three guest curators with different positions to answer the same word. Writer Arnon Grunberg, legal scholar Naema Tahir and commentator Stephan Sanders select more than forty works from the Rijksmuseum and other collections. Botticelli’s Judith, a photograph of Gerard Reve, Urania and a Taj Mahal sketch meet Gouda stories and local objects. The rooms offer no single doctrine. Belief, doubt, belonging and power rub against one another, and visitors have to notice how their own judgement carries biography as well. This is the first part of the M6 and Rijksmuseum touring trilogy Geloof Hoop Liefde and runs through 30 August. Follow one curator first, then inspect what the other two leave out.
