Steve McQueen maps stars onto migration

A map reduces people to routes, while a star chart reduces Earth to a nearly invisible point. Steve McQueen’s first Dutch solo exhibition at De Pont makes those scales collide. The commissioned ATLAS 2026 uses data from the European Space Agency’s Gaia mission; Sunshine State returns to family migration and film history; Untitled and Bounty approach memory, looking and flowers through different forms. The exhibition does not let a grand cosmos cover personal experience. Instead it asks who preserves the weight of one family’s movement when data can locate immense numbers of stars.
