NEMO Science Museum on Fever is EUR 21.50 a ticket, rated 4.6 from 27 reviews, one price from age 4, non-refundable. The official site charges the same; under-4s and Museumkaart holders go free, students pay EUR 14.

What you need to know

Before taking children to NEMO, the money most easily wasted is not the ticket price itself but tickets bought for people who did not need one. NEMO Science Museum on Fever is EUR 21.50 a ticket, rated 4.6 from 27 reviews, with the same price for adults, ages 13 to 17 and ages 4 to 12, no booking fee, and a clear statement that purchases cannot be refunded or changed. NEMO's own ticket page also charges EUR 21.50, so this is not a discount but the same price at a different checkout.

NEMO is the science museum on the Oosterdok waterfront in Amsterdam, and Fever describes hands-on experiments throughout, then the roof terrace where you keep experimenting with sundials and kites to see how wind and renewable energy work, with a view over the city. The official ticket page puts the lines that change the bill side by side: ages 0 to 3 cost nothing, as do holders of a Museumkaart, an Amsterdam Stadspas or an I amsterdam City Card, while a student card or European Youth Card costs EUR 14. So the sum is: total = 21.50 x people paying full price + 14 x students. Two adults with children aged 2 and 6 pay 21.50 x 3 = EUR 64.50, not EUR 86 for four tickets, and Fever has no ticket type for under-4s at all.

A household that already has a Museumkaart books a free timed ticket on the official site and does not need this Fever ticket; without a card, the adult card is 75 / 21.50 = 3.49 visits at this price and the card for 18 and under is 39 / 21.50 = 1.81. An autumn visit needs a date check: the official site says NEMO opens on Mondays only in school holidays, on public holidays and from March to 24 August, and the only autumn Mondays it lists as open are 12, 19 and 26 October and 2 November, so any other Monday is a wasted trip. The official site also requires children under 13 to come with an adult, while 13 and over may visit alone.

  • Fever ticket: all three types EUR 21.50, rated 4.6 from 27 reviews; entry slots from 10:00 to 15:30 on dates from 13 September to 6 December; no booking fee, no refunds or changes. (source 1)
  • Also free on the official site: VriendenLoterij VIP-KAART, ICOM card and a companion for a person with a disability; pass and card holders still book a timed ticket, checked at the entrance. (source 2)
  • Fever notes: the hall is wheelchair accessible, and the roof closes in bad weather, during special events, on New Year and on King's Day. (source 1, source 3)
