Children aged six to twelve build huts, make, move and form a temporary village around an underwater theme.
What you need to know
How does an empty field grow into an underwater village in six days? Not through a ready-made stage, but through timber, paint, hammers and the imagination of local children. From 15 to 20 August, Kinderdorp Angeren hands its event ground to participants aged six to twelve. This year’s theme is “Onderwater wereld”. Children do not simply watch a show: they begin by building and decorating huts, negotiate with new teammates where the reef or diving base belongs, then connect sport, treasure hunts, craft and workshops into a summer story they have made themselves.
Kinderdorp Angeren is sustained by local volunteers and families, and its purpose has always reached beyond keeping children occupied. Construction demands task-sharing, games require negotiation and unfamiliar children have to become a team within a few days. A structure that fails is adjusted or rebuilt. The underwater theme gives those real tasks an imaginative frame and offers quieter children a role through which to enter the group. The organiser describes a safe, familiar environment led by committed volunteers and asks parents to supply allergy or medical information during registration.
