New Huurtoeslag rules from 2026: higher income limit, rent cap increased. Do a free calculation!
What you need to know
Starting in 2026, the rules for Huurtoeslag (Dutch rent benefit) are changing. The maximum rent eligible for the subsidy will increase from β¬900.07 to β¬932.93. Service costs will no longer be included in the rent calculation. This means more tenants with slightly higher incomes may now qualify.
If you were previously ineligible due to rent exceeding the limit, it's worth checking again!
- β Rent cap increased to β¬932.93
- β Service costs excluded from rent
- β Higher earners might now qualify
You can perform a free trial calculation (proefberekening) on the Belastingdienst website to see if you're eligible. Applications can be backdated, so don't miss out.
