Adults with income may contribute to accommodation and meals, but household caps and the residual-income safeguard are equally important.

A monthly charge in a municipal letter should not be checked by multiplying one adult amount by every person in the room. From 1 August 2026, Ukrainian refugees aged eighteen or older in Dutch municipal accommodation may pay a personal contribution when they have income from work, unemployment benefit or certain long-term sickness payments. The operational-cost contribution is capped at β¬244.22 per adult per month and β¬488.44 per family. Where meals are provided, a further maximum of β¬260.97 per adult may apply. A residual-income safeguard also matters: after payment, a household should not be worse off than a comparable household receiving subsistence allowance. Changes in income, work or family composition must be reported so the municipality uses current facts.
