Hattem drawing workshop: turn a character into a story with Charlotte Dematons

30 Jul; age-group sessions

📅 Valid until 2026-07-30🕒 Published 2026-07-18🏷️ Category Local Kids

Deal Highlights

The illustrator of Nederland and Sinterklaas moves beyond copying: children learn how a character carries a story, then can have a book signed after class.

Details

On 30 July, illustrator Charlotte Dematons gives two age-group workshops at the Anton Pieck Museum in Hattem for €12.50 plus museum admission. Ages 8-10 book the morning and ages 11-14 the afternoon through the official ticket page.

  • Known for the densely observed picture books Nederland and Sinterklaas, Dematons shows how looking, character placement and small visual clues turn a drawing into narrative.
  • The 10:15-12:00 session is for roughly ages 8-10 and 13:15-15:00 for ages 11-14; she stays afterwards to sign books, connecting making with reading and authorship.
  • Museum admission is €4.50 through age 12 and €7.75 from 13, while Museumkaart holders enter free; cancellation after 26 July at 18:00 is non-refundable and workshop photography is planned.

Hokimi field note: Bring one favourite Dematons book and identify a single visual detail to ask about; the signing then becomes an author conversation rather than only a queue.
