Fish up a clue and become a ten-minute underwater archaeologist

“Underwater treasure” is easily reduced to pirate fantasy, but muZEEum in Vlissingen brings it back to real archaeology: how objects are recovered and what they reveal about life at sea. During the summer holiday, children aged four and older use a special magnetic rod in the courtyard to retrieve hidden objects. Each find earns points, and enough points produce a diploma in underwater archaeology. The activity takes roughly ten to fifteen minutes and is included with regular museum admission. It runs between 10:00 and 17:00, only in dry weather with little wind. Its short duration is a strength for families: children act first, then carry the question “why did this sink?” into the galleries. From 6 July through 24 August, the museum also opens on Mondays.
