Drents-Friese Wold forest detectives: read tracks and tiny life before chasing big animals

22 Jul 13:30; age 4+ €5.75

📅 Valid until 2026-08-12🕒 Published 2026-07-18🏷️ Category Local Kids

Deal Highlights

An experienced guide turns “what lives here?” into evidence: tracks, bite marks and creatures on leaves reveal who passed and how the forest works.

Details

On 22 July from 13:30 to 15:00, Staatsbosbeheer guides children aged four and up through the Drents-Friese Wold near Appelscha for €5.75 per child with an accompanying adult. Reserve in the official shop.

  • The value is not only spotting deer or birds: tracks, plants and invertebrates let children infer ecological relationships even when larger animals stay hidden.
  • The same activity returns on 5 and 12 August and lasts about two hours, giving families time to prepare water, a magnifier and clothes suitable for crouching and examining.
  • Paths are unpaved, the route is unsuitable for physical mobility limitations and dogs are not allowed. Adults must accompany children; recheck weather and availability.

Hokimi field note: Give a child three targets: one track, one nibbled leaf and one tiny creature. That evidence creates a fuller memory than asking only whether a large animal appeared.
