Ballorig Amsterdam Arena indoor playground: 9.95 euro online, 10.95 at the door, adults free and 3 euro with a Stadspas

On a rainy weekend many Amsterdam families head for an indoor playground. Ballorig has two in Amsterdam, and the Arena branch sits inside the Villa ArenA shopping centre, a six-minute walk from Bijlmer ArenA station. Only children pay: 10.95 euro at the door or 9.95 euro online, while accompanying adults go in free, and a child with an Amsterdam Stadspas pays 3 euro at the till. Online tickets stay valid for 12 months but only at the branch where you bought them. The real decision comes before you go: how often you will visit in a year, how many children you bring and whether you drive decide whether single tickets, the 6-visit card or the 10-visit card works out cheapest.

• What it is: Ballorig is an indoor playground chain that has been running for 30 years, for children from 0 to 12, with climbing frames, slides, trampolines and ball pits and a separate area for the youngest; the Arena branch also has a power tower, a toboggan run and a big bouncy cushion. • Prices at the Arena branch: the 6-visit card costs 58 euro at the door or 54 euro online, is not tied to one child and can be used for several children on the same day; the 10-visit card costs 92.50 euro at the door or 85 euro online; both cards work only at the branch where you buy them. The toddler ticket for weekday mornings, entering before 11:30, is 6 euro at the door or 5.50 online, not in school holidays or on public holidays. (source 1)
• Who it suits: families living in Amsterdam Zuidoost or with an easy metro or train ride to Bijlmer ArenA; families with a Stadspas save the most. For comparison, Monkey Town in Amsterdam-Noord also charges 10.95 euro at the door and 75 euro for a 10-visit card, with adults free. (source 1, source 5)
• Before you go: the Arena branch takes cards only; you may not bring your own food or drink; the Stadspas price is only given at the till, not online; if you drive, park at P4 or P5 for 1 euro per 20 minutes. Two sums are worth doing. First, what one visit costs the family: children × ticket price (9.95 online, 10.95 at the door, 3 with a Stadspas) + parking (1 euro per 20 minutes, so 9 euro for three hours, or nothing if you come by train or metro). Second, when a card pays off: the online 10-visit card is 85 ÷ 9.95 ≈ 8.5 visits, so it only saves money from the ninth; the online 6-visit card is 54 ÷ 9.95 ≈ 5.4, so it saves 5.70 euro only once all six are used. Because the 6-visit card covers several children at once, two children going three times use it up exactly. Put in your own number of children and visits a year.
