The mixer in the kitchen has started to rattle and you are weighing up replacing it now. The book in hand is an 18-page non-food special for the web shop, and it is a different thing entirely from the supermarket weekly running on the same days: kitchen appliances, a coffee machine, personal care and a tap, headed DEALS in orange, with free delivery noted on every block.

Before comparing anything, look at the basis: the footer states the reference is the price the supplier recommends, not a price anyone charged here. That sentence is printed along the bottom edge of a page. It means the line reading 150 lower is measured against a manufacturer list figure, while the same machine elsewhere has usually been selling under that list for a long time. The KitchenAid Classic 5K45SSEBM in matte black, 4.3 litres, tilt-head, full metal construction, shows 449 recommended against 299; the De’Longhi Magnifica Evo ECAM290.51.B with its LatteCrema milk system goes from 499 to 349.

The three highlighted lines land in three very different price bands:

• PHILIPS sonicare Elektrische tandenborstel 4100 Series HX3681/33 Per stuk at € 39,00. An electric brush is the easiest call in this band: the handle lasts for years while the heads are the running cost, so the figure that matters over time is what replacement heads cost rather than what the handle saves once. The entry series keeps to one cleaning mode, which covers daily use.
• Rollator at € 79,00. A walking frame is an unusual thing to find in a supermarket web-shop book, but it answers a real need at home, where an older relative going out wants support and somewhere to sit down. This block prints no model, no maximum user weight and no folded dimensions, so check each of those on the item page, because the wrong size is a far worse outcome than the wrong price.
• KitchenAid Keukenmixer Classic 5K45SSEBM - matzwart 4,3 liter at € 299,00. This is the one item in the book that repays real research: 4,3 litres, tilt-head, full metal construction, and normally in service for a decade or more. Ten minutes spent finding what it costs elsewhere today can save more than the other two blocks put together.

The sum is the deal price divided by the street price you can look up, not by the recommended one. Take the mixer: 299 divided by 449 reads as 67 per cent, but if you find it elsewhere at 340 today, the real gap is 41 rather than 150. Copy the model code exactly, because every item here carries one, and searching 5K45SSEBM or ECAM290.51.B returns far cleaner results than a product name. Then divide the deal figure by what you found, and treat anything under 0,9 as a trip worth making. The tap needs its own sum: 312 for the unit plus 159,95 for fitting is 471,95, which narrows the distance to 574 considerably.

Every block is marked op=op while stocks last, and the whole book belongs to the web shop, so none of these figures apply on a shop shelf. The same block warns that prices within a range move, colours and model codes carry different figures, and no delivery lead time is printed anywhere.
