What you need to know

You have just moved in, the kitchen drawer is short of cutlery and the fridge is empty. Jumbo’s week 39 flyer runs to 42 pages, the footer on every page says it is valid from Wednesday 23 to Tuesday 29 September 2026, and the theme throughout is a thousand products at one plus one free.

The first thing to understand is that every one plus one free example is a price for two, not for one. Conference pears or Jonagold apples (a 1 kilo tub or a 1,5 kilo bag) are illustrated with two 1 kilo tubs of pears at 3,70 down to 1,85; Jumbo Gouda slices, two packs of 190 gram, go from 5,98 to 2,99; Jumbo potatoes, two 3 kilo bags, from 7,70 to 3,85; Clipper tea, two boxes of 20 bags, from 7,58 to 3,79. The small print says you get one extra product free with each one you buy, every combination is allowed, and the total can differ per combination.

The three highlighted lines are three things a new kitchen needs in its first week:

Universeel mes at € 1,99. An all-purpose knife for bread, fruit and vegetables, enough to start cooking before you buy a proper set; once the drawer is complete it can move to the picnic basket or the office.
Bestekset at € 2,99. A cutlery set for a new home, a student room, or the evening guests arrive and there are not enough forks. On the shelf, check how many pieces and place settings it holds before deciding whether your household needs two.
Nederlandse aardbeien 400 gm at € 3,29. Dutch-grown strawberries; a 400 gram punnet serves two or three as dessert, and since strawberries do not keep, plan to eat them within a day or two.

The sum is the two-item total divided by 2, which is what you really pay per item. For the pears that is 3,70 divided by 2, or 1,85 a tub, which is about 0,93 euro a kilo; the potatoes are 3,85 for 6 kilo, about 0,64 a kilo. If you combine an expensive item with a cheaper one, the saving is no longer half of the example, and the receipt is the clearest check.

The flyer names no stock per branch. One plus one only works when you take two; if you need just one, that box is full price for you.
