15 August is more than a minute of silence

15 August marks the formal end of the Second World War for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but for people connected to the former Dutch East Indies, the end did not erase trauma, displacement or colonial relationships at the same moment. Het Nationale Theater moves that history from a monument back into family experience. The day programme combines Lagu Jiwa, genealogy tables, a paper-sarong workshop, a lecture and the performance Voorwaarts, ending with Nasi Bungkus so food also carries memory. It does not package grief as entertainment; it offers different generations several languages for entering one history. The pass runs 12:15–18:00 at €13.50, or €12.50 for under-30s, and only a few tickets remain. The separate boat programme is full and is not included.
