Waterpop’s 49th edition: how a free park festival keeps its voice

The 49th free Waterpop edition

📅 Valid until 2026-08-08🕒 Published 2026-07-21🏷️ Category Local Events

Deal Highlights

Waterpop has not made “free” mean a reduced programme: for almost fifty years, bands, street theatre and children’s activities have filled Hofpark, supported by hundreds of volunteers.

Details

On 7 and 8 August, the 49th Waterpop returns to Hofpark in Wateringen with free entry. Families can arrive by day while friends can choose evening bands from the line-up.

  • Waterpop describes itself as one of the Netherlands’ oldest and friendliest free festivals, built by a volunteer foundation. Every visit uses a cultural space the community keeps open.
  • Wodan Boys return after having to cancel in 2025, bringing loud, direct rock. TaxiTaxi, Platonic Smile and other styles make listening before planning more useful than following one headline.
  • Family value is not merely permission for children to enter: street theatre and children’s activities sit beside music, so adults do not have to choose one audience. Times remain subject to the final schedule.
  • Free entry still leaves food, travel and possible storage costs. Crowds can slow networks and reunions, so set a meeting landmark and put a parent number on younger children.

Hokimi field note: Give every companion one must-see and leave the rest for discovery. A free festival is easy to over-schedule, which can hide the street work and necessary breaks.
