Spakenburg heritage days: walk from living costume tradition to working fishing boats

From 22 Jul; four Wednesdays

📅 Valid until 2026-08-12🕒 Published 2026-07-18🏷️ Category Local Attrac.

Deal Highlights

More than a street market: residents wear local dress, wooden botters sail from the museum harbour and fish auction, choirs and dance join work with celebration.

Details

The 54th Spakenburgse Dagen take place on 22 and 29 July and 5 and 12 August from Kerkstraat and Spuistraat towards Westmaat. The public route is open to walk; purchases, museums and botter trips cost extra.

  • The lead is traditional Spakenburg dress still worn by local women, men and children, not costume hired for a stage; clothing carries the fishing-town identity into the present.
  • Historic botters fill Museumhaven and sell Eemmeer trips from the east side; combine this with the fish auction and costume-and-fishing museum to connect boats, catch and clothing.
  • The market route is long, so wear walking shoes. Village parking is limited: follow S signs to the €10 outer site, where continuous shuttles are included, and recheck the daily programme.

Hokimi field note: Begin with the boats at Museumhaven, then walk into dress and performance; starting from work tools makes the music, food and clothing read as town life rather than decoration.
