Rainy-day Holterberg: stand before fighting red deer and learn their calls

Throughout July, Natuurmuseum Holterberg shows its deer exhibition during opening hours. Entry is €8.75 for adults and €6 for ages 3-12, making it an indoor fallback near Sallandse Heuvelrug.

• The central fighting-red-deer scene was the final project of museum founder Piet Bos and is described as one of the museum’s icons. The diorama is therefore also a natural-history maker’s last work.
• Visitors compare red deer with elk, roe deer and fallow deer and hear their calls. Playful interpretation turns “all deer look alike” into observations of scale, antlers, habitat and sound.
• From April through October the museum opens Monday-Saturday 10:00-17:00 and Sunday 11:00-17:00. Museumkaart is not accepted; parking is free. Add the woodland play route only if weather and energy suit.
