Sixteen giant moving stages turn Heeze into theatre

These floats do not simply carry decoration past a crowd. Each builders’ group turns a regional subject into mobile scenery, costume, music and street theatre; a house-high structure becomes a story only when performers inhabit it. What began in 1958 grew into a tradition drawing more than thirty thousand visitors, which explains why an entire village treats roads, viewing positions and timing as one theatre machine. Exhibitions, music, street performance and food begin from 11:00, so the theatre parade is the centre but not the whole day. The office address is not automatically the best viewing point.
