Seú Oogstfeestparade: Rotterdam Zuid's harvest parade

Seú Oogstfeestparade traces back to Seú, the traditional Curaçaoan and Antillean harvest festival, and on Sunday afternoon 9 August that tradition returns to the streets of Rotterdam Zuid as a free parade: starting at 13:00 on Hillevliet and finishing two hours later at Afrikaanderplein. The community groups taking part spend months beforehand designing and sewing their own costumes, choreographing formations and rehearsing the live music that carries the procession, so the parade reads as a year's worth of preparation rather than an improvised show. The finish line at Afrikaanderplein doubles as the site of the Oogstmarkt, a harvest market with food, clothing and live performances, making it easy to watch the parade arrive and then stay for the market without moving far.
