Rotterdam turns one square into a wine map

The first pour can be dictated by the crowd: music, cheese boards and colourful counters all compete for attention. A more rewarding route is to choose one unfamiliar region or grape, then compare a few producers instead of treating every glass as a task. More than one hundred wines does not mean unlimited drinks are included. The official pages separate admission, opening times and on-site spending; Friday starts at 16:00, Saturday at 13:00, and a reserved seat is not promised. Hokimi sees this as slow discovery, not a challenge to recover the ticket price. Water, food and a planned journey home preserve both judgement and the pleasure of the final tasting.

• The festival runs on 14 and 15 August.
