Free world music in Boechout: 50 years of Sfinks turning sound into meetings

23-26 Jul: four free music days

📅 Valid until 2026-07-26🕒 Published 2026-07-19🏷️ Category Local Events

Deal Highlights

Cuban salsa, Nigerian Afrobeat, Cape Verdean saudade and Argentine cumbia are not simply one bill: Sfinks brings generations together through music, Kidz Village and a world market.

Details

Sfinks Mixed marks its 50th edition in Boechout, Belgium, from 23-26 July, free with no ticket or registration. Visitors from the Netherlands should fix transport and the return trip before choosing artist times.

  • Since 1975, Sfinks has introduced audiences to music worldwide, including artists such as Khaled, Youssou N’Dour, Mory Kanté and Cesária Évora. The anniversary carries a half-century of curation, not a generic mixed line-up.
  • The 2026 programme spans Alain Pérez’s Cuban salsa, Mádé Kuti’s Afrobeat, a Cesária Évora Orchestra tribute and La Delio Valdez cumbia. Kidz Village and the world market extend the encounter beyond the stages.
  • Doors open 16:00 Thursday-Friday and 12:00 on the weekend. Boechout station is about ten minutes on foot, tram A3 stops roughly 100 metres away, car parking is €10 daily and camping is separate.

Hokimi field note: Choose one familiar rhythm and one artist you have never heard, with the world market between them; that “known plus unknown” explains why Sfinks has lasted 50 years.
