On an autumn trip to Paris, this Élancourt park from 1991 shrinks the Eiffel Tower, Mont-Saint-Michel and Chambord to 1/30. With the family ticket sum, the web price 5 days ahead, the season pass and the 1 November close.
What you need to know
The Dutch autumn break runs into the French Toussaint holidays, and the queues at the Eiffel Tower and the Paris museums grow. With a six-year-old and a nine-year-old, seeing the Eiffel Tower, Mont-Saint-Michel and Chambord in one day is actually possible west of Paris in Élancourt, where all of them have been shrunk to one thirtieth of their size.
France Miniature opened in 1991 and describes itself as the largest miniature park in Europe: 5 hectares of landscaped grounds holding 117 models of French landmarks, all at 1/30 scale, threaded with 4 km of miniature railway. A child standing next to the Eiffel Tower is taller than it, which is the photo everyone takes. Beyond the models there are 25 attractions, including a six-lane slide, a panoramic tower over the whole park, a two-seat looping capsule and a rope challenge 4 metres off the ground. From 3 October to 1 November the park is dressed for Halloween, with a family puzzle trail to follow.
If Versailles is on the same trip, France Miniature is about 15 minutes away by car and about 30 from Paris: the palace in the morning, the park in the afternoon, and the children do not feel the whole day was monuments. Its limit is the weather. The models and most attractions are outdoors, and on a wet day only the covered picnic areas and the play tent offer shelter; adults who want real buildings rather than models may also find a full day long.
- Work out the family total first: on Fever or at the gate, total = 29 x people aged 12 and over + 23 x children aged 3 to 11; the official "Billet Mini" bought at least 5 days ahead is EUR 22 for adults and children alike. Two adults and two children pay EUR 104 against EUR 88. For a last-minute visit within two days, Fever costs the same as the gate and saves the ticket queue.
- Two visits in a season means the season pass: EUR 55 for adults and EUR 45 for children, which the park says pays for itself on the second visit, with free parking. The park also lists 50% off entry at Walibi Holland, Walibi Belgium and other parks for pass holders (conditions apply, check the official site), which a family living in the Netherlands can actually use.
- Does a three-year-old need a ticket: the park says under 3 is free and ages 3 to 11 pay the child rate; the Fever page says under 4 is free. When the two disagree the park decides, so bring a birth certificate or passport for a three-year-old and ask at the gate.
