Indoor illusion museum at Tour & Taxis, 8 zones and 120-plus installations with English commentary, EUR 14.90 on Fever, 4.0 from 2,523 reviews, with the family sum, the Monday closure and whether the escape game pays.
What you need to know
Taking the children to Brussels for two days at the end of October, a wet day quickly empties the squares and streets of their charm. In Tour & Taxis, the old freight district by the canal, there is a full 1,500 square metres of indoor space built to fool the brain: WOM, World of Mind.
WOM was created and is run by Fever Labs, part of the ticketing platform Fever, and the venue says its content was developed with the Belgian neurologist and author Steven Laureys, around how the brain and the five senses can be tricked. It is split into 8 zones with more than 120 illusions: a hall of mirrors, a vortex tunnel and installations the venue calls new to Belgium, plus magic shows held regularly; a visit takes about 60 to 90 minutes. The experience runs in French, English and Dutch, and the venue is wheelchair accessible with a ramp at the entrance and a lift to the lower level. On Fever it is rated 4.0 from 2,523 reviews, and an adult ticket is EUR 14.90.
Families with children around ten who have started asking why their eyes get it wrong fit it best: the mirrors and the vortex are made to play in and photograph, and the adults get fooled too. Know the limits first. The separate paid escape game runs only in French and Dutch and is rated high difficulty; under-12s must be with an adult; and last entry is 16:30, with latecomers possibly refused, so plan the time if you set out late in the afternoon.
- Work out the cheapest way for the family: separately = EUR 14.90 times the people aged 18 and over plus EUR 11.90 times those aged 6 to 18, with under-6s free. A family of exactly two adults and two children can take the family pack (2 adults and 2 children) at EUR 11.50 each; compare the two totals before you book.
- Skip Mondays: the venue opens Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, and daily only during Belgian school holidays. The Dutch and Belgian autumn breaks do not always overlap, so check the booking calendar for your date first.
- The escape game is extra: on Fever it costs EUR 20 more and runs Monday to Friday 10:30 to 16:30 and weekends only until 13:30. English-only families can skip it; the English commentary in the main exhibition is enough.
- Companions and free entry: companions of visitors with reduced mobility enter free, as do ICOM and ICOMOS card holders with a valid card.

Hokimi tip: the old Tour & Taxis freight site has its own art exhibitions, markets and restaurants, so after WOM there is no need to rush back to the centre; eat on the same site and skip an extra walk in the rain.
