Parrot World near Paris family ticket for four at EUR 58: two adults and two children save EUR 9, and annual passes only pay off on the third visit

You take two children to Paris for three days, Disneyland has already swallowed a large sum on day one, and on day two the adults want somewhere without long queues that still fills a whole day for the children. Parrot World is in Crécy-la-Chapelle, east of Paris and a 20-minute drive from Disneyland Paris, an immersive South American wildlife park: macaws fly over your head in a giant aviary while jaguars, giant otters, Humboldt penguins and capybaras line the paths. Its day ticket is rated 4.5 from 1,597 reviews on Fever, with adults from EUR 19.

The park was founded by Eric Vignot. According to the park, after 40 years running businesses he sold his company in 2015, first set up the Parrot Wildlife Foundation to protect parrots, then built this park with parrots as ambassadors for nature; since 2020 it has focused entirely on South America, and it works with EAZA, the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria. That is why the stars here are not single birds in cages: there is a sanctuary aviary for around sixty abandoned African grey parrots and a full day of scheduled keeper talks. On 17 September, for example, jaguars were at 11:30 and 15:00, penguins at 12:00 and 16:00, parrots at 13:30 and 15:30, and the giant otters at 14:30.

Which ticket is cheapest depends on the size of your group. Adults from age 12 pay EUR 19, children aged 3 to 11 pay EUR 14.50, under-3s are free, and a family ticket for four costs EUR 58 for two adults and two children or one adult and three children. Two adults and two children bought separately cost 2 x 19 + 2 x 14.50 = EUR 67, so the family ticket saves EUR 9; one adult and three children cost EUR 62.50 separately, a saving of only EUR 4.50; two adults, one child and a baby under three pay EUR 52.50 separately with the baby free, so the family ticket does not apply at all. Annual passes are EUR 38 for adults and EUR 29 for children, and the park says they pay off in two visits, which holds for single tickets; a family of four on the family ticket pays EUR 116 for two visits against EUR 134 for four passes, so the passes only win on the third visit, at EUR 174.

• Getting there from the Netherlands: the park gives about 40 minutes by car from Porte de Bercy in Paris on the A4, with 600 free parking spaces; by train, line P runs from Gare de l'Est to Crécy-la-Chapelle, but the park recommends a taxi from the station; if you take the TGV to Marne-la-Vallée Chessy at Disneyland, the chauffeur service the park lists charges EUR 40 per trip for 1 to 4 people from Disneyland or Val d'Europe, booked 24 hours ahead, which makes EUR 80 return to add to the total.
