Düsseldorf Rhine funfair: enter 165,000 m² of lights and 700-year tradition free
165,000 m² fairground; entry free
Deal Highlights
The rides are only the surface: Rheinkirmes grows from a shooting-club tradition over 700 years old, and the 24 July fireworks join the fair to the Rhine night skyline.
Details
Rheinkirmes runs through 26 July on Düsseldorf’s Oberkassel Rhine meadows with free admission. Visitors from the Netherlands budget only for travel, rides and food; fireworks are around 22:30 on 24 July.
- The 165,000 m² site brings operators from Germany and abroad, from classic stalls to modern large rides. Free entry lets a family inspect the fair before deciding where to spend instead of buying a whole-event ticket.
- The event is tied to the St Sebastianus shooting club, more than 700 years old with over 1,500 members, around the feast of St Apollinaris. The fair therefore carries local civic identity as well as entertainment.
- Opening begins 14:00 Monday-Friday, 13:00 Saturday and 11:00 Sunday, with different closing times. Fireworks night brings the greatest crowd and return pressure, so check cross-border trains and the last service.
Hokimi field note: Set one ride budget per person and keep time for a free walk through the lights and river view; free admission does not require spending at every attraction.
