2 Aug 09:30-17:30; 650+ stalls

📅 Valid until 2026-08-02🕒 Published 2026-07-18🏷️ Category Local Attrac.

Deal Highlights

From children’s books and poetry to art and maps, professional dealers fill the historic centre; authors and WoordWaarde bring voices off the page.

Details

The 36th Deventer Boekenmarkt runs in the city centre on 2 August from 09:30 to 17:30, with more than 650 stalls forming Europe’s largest book market. Walk the public route freely; purchases and selected activities cost extra.

  • This is not an enlarged weekly market: exhibitors are professional booksellers, antiquarians and publishers, and more than 100,000 annual visitors come for rare, collectible and specialist material.
  • Kinderboekenmarkt groups books for different ages, Schrijversplein brings readers to authors and WoordWaarde, 30 July-2 August, adds readings, talks, exhibitions and workshops.
  • Some collectors arrive from 07:00, but the official start is 09:30. The station is about ten minutes on foot; drivers can use De Boreel, Brink or park across the IJssel and take the ferry.

Hokimi field note: Write three search targets before leaving, such as a Dutch picture book, an old map and an author encounter; 650 stalls then become a hunt rather than an aimless walk.
