What you need to know

This Amazing Oriental flyer runs to three pages and all of them say the same thing: free tastings on 5 and 6 September. Page one is Acecook's Hao Hao Vietnamese instant noodles. Page two is Ajinomoto's gyoza and chicken kara-age served with Lee Kum Kee's Chiu Chow chilli oil and dumpling sauce. Page three is dated the sixth and covers the Tjendrawasih steamed bun range with sweet chilli and sriracha. All three pages carry the same address: amazingoriental.com/agenda.

That address is worth opening first, because the flyer only gives dates while the agenda page gives stores and times, and the two are at very different resolutions. On Saturday the fifth the Hao Hao noodles run at Den Bosch and Amsterdam Noord from 11:00 to 17:00 and at Antwerpen from 12:00 to 18:00, while the Lee Kum Kee and Ajinomoto session runs at Duiven from 11:00 to 17:00, Den Haag Kerkplein from 12:00 to 18:00, Den Haag Ypenburg from 11:00 to 17:00, Hoofddorp from 10:45 to 16:45 and Amsterdam Noord from 11:00 to 17:00. On Sunday the sixth the Lee Kum Kee and Ajinomoto session runs at Rotterdam Alexandrium from 12:30 to 17:00 and Den Haag Spuimarkt from 13:00 to 17:00, and Suree with Tjendrawasih runs at Rotterdam Zuidplein from 13:00 to 17:00.

Count those and the picture is not the one the cover suggests: eleven sessions in total across ten stores, and no single store runs all three. The only place to catch two in one trip is Amsterdam Noord on the Saturday, where the noodles and the dumplings both run from 11:00 to 17:00. Every other store has exactly one session on its day. So the decision is not whether to go but which day and which hours your nearest store appears on that list, because the list is organised by store rather than by date.

One thing to be clear about: this is a free tasting and not a discount. No price appears anywhere in the flyer and no voucher comes with the sample. The 10:45 start at Hoofddorp is the only one of the eleven that does not begin on the hour, and Antwerpen and Den Haag Kerkplein are the only two running until 18:00.Source 1 Source 2
