Helderse Zomerfeesten: a free city stage inside the old naval dockyard
17-19 Jul; free at Willemsoord
Deal Highlights
Willemsoord moved from Royal Navy repair yard to open city quarter; music, carnival, children’s theatre and 19 food trucks now refill it with local sound.
Details
Helderse Zomerfeesten runs free at Willemsoord in Den Helder from 17 to 19 July, opening today at 15:00 with Concert aan de Werf. It suits a flexible music or family weekend; choose an arrival time from the dated programme first.
- Willemsoord is the protagonist: once the Royal Netherlands Navy’s shipbuilding and maintenance yard, its industrial structures now frame the Sluisdeur stage.
- Each day tells a different story: Friday pop, Saturday’s 11:30 brass parade and Caribbean programme, then children’s theatre, face paint and character meetings on Sunday.
- Entry is free, but food from 19 trucks, drinks and transport are extra; check the hourly programme, bring a layer for the sea wind and allow walking time for the parade.
Hokimi field note: For the strongest local sequence, watch Saturday’s brass parade in town and follow it towards Willemsoord instead of waiting only at the main stage.
