Hans Zimmer by Candlelight at Beethoven-Haus Bonn

The house where Beethoven was born in 1770 forms part of this ensemble, while the neighbouring Hermann J. Abs chamber hall has continued its chamber-music tradition with acclaimed acoustics since 1989. Hearing Hans Zimmer here creates a rare dialogue between classical history and modern film music.

The roughly 65-minute programme travels from Time in Inception and Cornfield Chase in Interstellar to themes from The Lion King, Dunkirk, Gladiator and Pirates of the Caribbean. With the screen removed, rhythm, repetition and harmony have to carry the narrative themselves.

Film fans can rediscover familiar music without the images, while classical listeners can hear how film scoring borrows symphonic language. It suits a date, gift or finale to a day in Bonn, but it is an independent tribute with no connection to Hans Zimmer or his representatives.
