Black Harmony Amsterdam: 20 years of Sranan Tongo harmony by the IJ
18 Jul 20:00; from €25
Deal Highlights
Close harmony meets Apinti and Kawina percussion as six singers carry Surinamese language, ceremonial rhythm and twenty years of stage trust to the terrace.
Details
Black Harmony marks twenty years on the Muziekgebouw terrace in Amsterdam on 18 July from 20:00 to 21:00, with a DJ from 18:00. A €25 drinks package and €59.50 dinner option create different evenings; choose the format before booking.
- Six voices in Sranan Tongo lead the story, with close harmony working alongside Apinti and Kawina percussion rather than sitting above it.
- Apinti carries communicative and ceremonial roots, while Kawina joins call-and-response singing to driving community percussion.
- The concert is planned outside with an indoor weather fallback; the two prices include different hospitality, not simply better and worse seats.
Hokimi field note: Arrive for the DJ and listen for exchanges between drum and voice; the 20:00 concert becomes easier to read once that conversation is in your ear.
