Six local dancers use glow-in-the-dark costumes to turn Sleeping Beauty's classical movement into trails of light. It is not a light show with the story removed, but a contemporary way to retell the fairytale.
What you need to know
When Sleeping Beauty's turns, leaps and ensemble passages no longer depend on scenery, the light worn by the dancers becomes part of the story. Created by María Farelo and Cristian Pérez of Luma Artistas, Ballet of Lights uses six local dancers, classical technique and glowing costumes to retell the tale.
Each movement draws colour across the dark stage. Children can literally see the choreography, while ballet fans can watch technology reshape the body's lines. Diligentia occupies a monumental building on The Hague's Lange Voorhout, and its wide, shallow auditorium keeps much of the audience close to the stage.
At about an hour, it suits a family afternoon, a first dance performance or a date that feels lighter than traditional ballet. The focus is visual reinterpretation rather than a full classical company and orchestra, so set expectations accordingly.
- Address: Diligentia, Lange Voorhout 5, 2514 EA The Hague.
- Tickets currently start at EUR 28.00; the show lasts about 60 minutes, late entry is not allowed, and seats are first-come within each zone.
- Recommended for ages 5+; under-16s need an adult. Wheelchair places depend on availability and should be selected during booking.
Hokimi field note: arrive early for more than the seat choice. Notice the dark stage before the show begins; the costumes' ability to draw each movement then becomes much clearer.
Dates, availability and external conditions can change. Confirm the latest information with the official source.
