Candlelight Queen vs. ABBA: a string-quartet showdown

The Candlelight series reframes popular music with classical ensembles and a room filled with LED candlelight; this Amsterdam programme places Queen and ABBA in direct contrast.

Hydra Quartet performs titles including Bohemian Rhapsody, Dancing Queen, Waterloo and We Will Rock You, revealing across 60 minutes how strongly the melodies survive without the original vocals.

For listeners who know both groups and want to hear the arrangements; admission is 8+, under-16s need an adult, late entry is not allowed and seating within each zone is first come, first served.

Choose the song you know best and follow which line passes between cello and violins; the intelligence of a string arrangement often sits outside the main melody.
