Ten varieties, a farm terrace and local products make this more than buying fruit.
What you need to know
The best part of self-picking is rarely saving on blueberries. It is watching a child choose one berry, compare sweet and tart flavours, then carry a basket home. Handje Gezond in America, Limburg, is run by the De Kleijne family and offers up to ten blueberry varieties in season, plus a terrace and farm shop.
- Time and place: daily 09:00-18:00 from 1 July to 31 August, Dorperpeelweg 15, 5966 PM America. Prices are set on site.
- Best for: a school-holiday half day, local-food fans and cyclists near junctions 42 and 26.
- Before you go: confirm picking availability and price, wear shoes that can get dirty, and go in the cooler morning. Leave time for the terrace.
Hokimi field note: Do not rush for one basket photo. Let children compare varieties, then use the berries at breakfast the next day.
