Details
Rijksmuseum runs the Lekker groot workshop daily from 10:00 to 12:00 between 16 July and 28 August. It is for ages 6-12 and costs €15 including materials. Parents should choose a date by the official painting, drawing or etching schedule and book ahead. This is not an add-on craft corner: looking at the collection becomes the start of making at XXL scale. The weekday schedule determines whether the child meets colour, line or scratched texture, so choosing a medium is part of the experience rather than a minor booking detail.
- Scale is the protagonist: children begin with an extra-long image of one hundred figures at play, notice how actions connect across the scene, then add their own moment on large paper, with broad brushes or in a folding book.
- The weekday changes the experience: Monday and Tuesday focus on painting; Wednesday, Friday and Saturday on drawing; Thursday and Sunday on drypoint etching. Charcoal, pastel, ink, watercolour and a needle do not produce interchangeable results.
- Why the €15 has value: materials are included, some pieces join into one long group narrative, and each child can take an individual print home. The child experiences personal choice and shared authorship instead of copying one template.
Hokimi field note: Ask whether your child wants colour, line or a scratched texture, then choose the weekday from that answer; the right medium matters more than forcing the nearest available date.
