Jalan Jalan turns stories into a street

Walking Lange Voorhout brings spice aromas, stage sound and family stories onto one avenue. The festival does not reduce culture to an exotic flavour; eating, listening and memory are meant to explain one another. “Jalan jalan” carries the idea of strolling, and the three-day format lets visitors move without chasing a schedule—from market to film or story and back to live music. From 21–23 August, the first free Jalan Jalan Festival uses food, music, film, theatre, dance, storytelling and workshops to explore cultures connecting the Netherlands and Indonesia. It suits readers who check date, cost, companions and restrictions before deciding. Specific dates, mechanism and place decide whether it fits; the headline alone is not enough.

Choose one must-see programme by date, then leave at least an hour to wander; free entry does not mean every workshop is walk-in.
