A Wonderful Surprise — Well Worth the Journey! After eating at Nam Kee twice and having Sichuan food twice during our stay in Amsterdam, we were in the mood for some Northeastern Chinese cuisine. ChatGPT recommended this restaurant, but I hesitated at first because it required a metro ride to get there. When I wondered whether it was really worth the trip, ChatGPT told me, “A good dinner is worth travelling for.” So we decided to give it a try. And what a great decision it turned out to be! When we arrived, the restaurant was packed, and what caught my attention was that the diners were all Westerners. I couldn’t help wondering whether they were local residents or people who had discovered this place for its authentic Chinese food. Either way, it was a pleasant surprise to see a Northeastern Chinese restaurant attracting such a crowd. Despite being so busy, the staff kindly found two extra chairs and managed to fit us around a small table. We ordered lamb skewers, spicy and sour shredded potatoes, cold liangpi noodles, Chinese chive pancakes, and pork-and-chive dumplings. Apart from the lamb skewers being a little small, everything was excellent. The food tasted wonderfully authentic. The liangpi had just the right texture, while the shredded potatoes were crisp, refreshing and full of flavour. As someone from Beijing, I naturally have my own expectations of Northeastern Chinese food, and tastes can differ between northern and southern Chinese diners. For me, this was the most satisfying and comforting Chinese meal I had in Amsterdam. The service was equally impressive. Despite the restaurant being extremely busy, the staff responded promptly to our requests and worked with remarkable speed and efficiency. Their attentive, no-nonsense approach was a pleasure to experience. Looking back, there’s another reason this dinner was memorable. I nearly gave this place a miss because of the distance, but when I hesitated, ChatGPT encouraged me to make the journey, saying that a good dinner was worth travelling for. The result was excellent! Perhaps AI’s ability to assess things is already moving beyond what we fully understand. The world really is changing. Authentic food, efficient service and a genuinely satisfying experience. A real gem for anyone craving Northeastern Chinese cuisine in Amsterdam — and well worth the journey!

Loved the food, so yummy and generous portion. The dumplings are a must try from this region and they were on POINT (must be panfried tooooo, too good although a wee bit oily but that just part of yummy chinese food sometimes i feel hahahah) the mapo tofu although not the most authentic because it originated from a different region but the taste is till pretty yummy i’d say. These two dishes for two ppl portion were more than enough. We were hungy but werent like famished but still managed to finish (very uncomfortably tho hahahah that’s how big the portion was, so it’s very likely that you will box it home) It’d defo be nice to order many dishes to share, the mapotofu and i guess most dishes come with rice. I think price was quite reasonable for Ams and auntie at the shop was very nice alsooo, i’d loveeeee to come back for sho!

We ordered pork dumpling, fried chicken and roasted duck and everything was delicious! The menu has various options but my favorite was the salty & crispy chicken wings!

Very decent Chinese food. We enjoyed boiled dumplings, crispy meat in sweet and sour sauce and cold starters, such as cucumber and mushrooms in old-aged vinegar. Dumplings were slightly over boiled, the rest was perfect. This restaurant is 5 times more expensive than in China, but it’s understandable, knowing that the place is in the center of Amsterdam. Interior isn’t special, but is clean and neat. There was some unpleasant smell in the beginning but then it was gone. Overall I can recommend the place.

Small but authentic northeastern Chinese food place! The flavor, chaos and decoration remind me of home. Recommend: dumplings, intestine clay pot, bbq squid skewers, eggplant with potato and bell peppers, spicy beef stew, pig ears. It can get quite busy so best to make reservations.
